Tierney Forced to Quit

Doncaster midfielder Francis Tierney has been forced to retire because of a recurring knee-injury.

Tierney is remembered as a hero for Rovers after scoring the winning goal in the clubs conference playoffs in May 2003. 

The 29-year-old has only managed one game this season and has had 3 failed knee-operations forcing him to lay his career to rest. 

Manager Dave Penney said: 

"He will always be a legend at Rovers for because he scored the goal that took us back into the League." 

Tierney started his footballing career at Crewe and later joined Doncaster from Notts County in 2001.
