Doncaster, Dave Penney and Simon Marples himself will be shocked to discover that the 29-year-old defender will be out for the entire season.

The 29-year-old defender has had a constant groin problem and after visiting 2 specialists, discovered that he would have to under-go 2 surgical procedures.

The operations, taking place on Tuesday 15th February, will keep him out for the rest of the season and if any problems occur, into the start of next season.

Marples, a key player for Doncaster, has made 136 league appearances for the club since joining over 6 years ago and Doncaster will really miss him in their boost for a 3rd consecutive promotion.

Doncaster Physio Barry Windle said:

"Simon is very philosophical about it but these things cannot be left."

"No-one can ever give guarantees of a full and complete recovery but we look at it as a positive.”

"Hopefully he will do some work with me in the summer and come back fitter and stronger next season."
