Saturday's referee, Barry Knight, has admitted he made a mistake in showing Shaun Wright-Phillips the red card on Saturday. Knight was the only person in the ground who saw a red card offence when awarding Everton a penalty during City's 3-1 win.
Wright-Phillips escapes ban.Incompetent official, Barry Knight, has finally come to the same decision that 35,000 were capable of making at the time on Saturday, namely that the red card shown to Shaun Wright-Phillips was wrong.Whilst a degree of credit must be given to Mr. Knight for having the decency to reverse his decision after watching replays of the incident, the fact remains that his incompetence could have cost City a game that they deserved and needed to win. Wright-Phillips will now avoid a ban, the decision having been downgraded to a yellow card. |
