Stranraer 0 - 4 Motherwell

Motherwell have reached the Scottish Cup semi finals for the first time in 12 years after beating Stranraer 4 - 0 in today's quarter final clash.

Well fans !


The victory also keeps up the 100 % record Motherwell have over the second division side winning all four matches over the years. Motherwell were once again cheered on by a large travelling support, over 3,000 made the journey down to Stranraer to cheer on the side to memorable Scottish Cup win.



Warm up



Manager Terry Butcher dropped David Clarkson and Dougie Ramsay to the bench replacing them with Captain Scott Leitch and soon to be suspended Stephen Pearson.






It was Stranraer's first ever quarter final match and early indications were the home side wanted to go a step further in this season's competition and reach the semis. Billy McLaren's men created the games first real chance , Wingate fired in a cross that was headed past Dubourdeau's post by forward Michael Moore from close range when he really should have put the home side ahead.

Despite not creating many chances it was Motherwell who took the lead after 30 minutes, Derek Adams whipped in a free kick into the Stranraer box when the ball came off Wright's leg and the defender could only watch as the ball went past Chris Hillcoat in the Stranraer goal.



Six minutes later Stranraer almost pulled level, they were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, Wingate struck it well but Dubourdeau touched it past for a corner.





A Motherwell attack



Motherwell doubled their lead through James McFadden, the young striker raced clear of the Stranraer defence to knock it past Hillcoat for his 13 th goal of the season, four of which have came in this season's cup campaign.





Derek Adams who once again had a great match was awarded for his great performance with a goal, the midfielder slammed home from 12 yards to kill the tie and was unlucky not to get a second when a goal bound corner was cleared off the line at the last minute.

German forward Dirk Lehmann finished the scoring three minutes from time, he headed home from a Cowan cross to the delight of the travelling support.
