Middlesbrough v Portsmouth Big Match Facts
By Andy Morgan
August 28 2006
Portsmouth's last win on Teesside was on 16 April 1994 where they beat Middlesbrough 2-0. Their last win in the top flight was on 3 September 1949 where a Peter McKennan penalty was scant consolation for Boro in a 5-1 reverse.
General Facts
There have been one hundred previous encounters between Middlesbrough and Portsmouth.
All three previous Premier League games on Teesside have ended in draws (0-0, 1-1 and 1-1 respectively) whilst Middlesbrough are yet to win against Portsmouth since the Premier League came into being.
Portsmouth's last win on Teesside was on 16 April 1994 where they beat Middlesbrough 2-0. Their last win in the top flight was on 3 September 1949 where a Peter McKennan penalty was scant consolation for Boro in a 5-1 reverse.
Middlesbrough
Boro are going for their first back-to-back League victories since April when they beat Bolton 4-3 at home and then a Lee Cattermole goal saw off Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Boro's defeat of Chelsea on Wednesday is their only win in the last seven competitive games and their first League win in six.
Despite this, this is Middlesbrough's best start to a season since 2000.
Tonight's game will mark the 300th appearance of Mark Schwarzer in goal.
If Yakubu scores against his former club he will take his tally to fifty goals in English League Football.
Right-back Stuart Parnaby will make his 100th Boro start if he is named on the team-sheet for tonight's battle at the Riverside. Similarly Chris Riggott will make his 150th career start if he is named in tonight's starting eleven.
Portsmouth
Portsmouth are the only club this season to have kept a clean sheet for all of their games so far.
Their record of four points from their opening two games is the same record they obtained two years ago on their first foray in the Premiership. To keep this up, they need to beat Middlesbrough tonight.
If David Thompson plays some part in tonight's proceedings he will be making his 200th career League appearance.

MIDDLESBROUGH v PORTSMOUTH NO-LOSE BET
It's been a great season at the bookies so far, with plenty of profit to show for my endeavours and a bag full of free bets as well. The only problem is that it's Bank Holiday Monday and Mrs H has gone off to Ikea to blow all my profit.
So the best thing to do in that scenario is to make some more and we can do that very easily on tonight's Middlesbrough v Portsmouth match.
Betfred are offering new online customers a bonus of up to £100, completely free with your first bet. Whatever you win from your first bet,
Betfred will give you an extra 100% on top, up to the value of £100. For example, if you win £100 with your first bet, they will double it up and give you another £100 completely free. And you can withdraw it immediately as well
And we can make this bet totally risk free by laying it off at Totalbet
and Paddy Power.
We're going to lay out a total of £180.00 on the match and we will win either £58, £12 or break even on the match but we'll gain a total of £20.00 in free bets, with more to come later and we can cash these out on the next round of matches.
If you already have accounts with one or more of the bookies I have chosen, you won't be able to do this but if that is the case, just let me know and I'll find you an alternative bookie of which there are a few.
Here's how it's done. Just follow these simple instructions.
1. Open accounts with Betfred, Totalbet
and Paddy Power. This shouldn't take you any longer than ten minutes.
2. Make the following deposits into your new accounts. Deposit £70 into your new Betfred account. Deposit £60 into your new Paddy Power account and deposit £50 into your new Totalbet
account.
3. Now make the following bets.
Place £70 on Middlesbrough to win at 6/5 with Betfred.
Place £50 on Portsmouth to win at 13/5 with Totalbet
.
Place £60 on the draw at 11/5 with Paddy Power.
You have temporarily laid out a total of £180. I stress, temporarily... Now sit back, crack a beer open, crank up Sky TV and enjoy the match.
4. Here's what happens at the end of the game.
If Middlesbrough win, you will collect £238.00 from Betfred, including your bonus and your stake back.
If Portsmouth win, you will collect £180.00 from Totalbet
, including your stake back.
If it's a draw, you will collect £192.00 from Paddy Power, including your stake back.
5. You will also be credited with a free £10 bet from Totalbet
and a free £10 bet from Paddy Power and if you decide to keep on betting with Totalbet
, you will also receive further free bets up to the value of £15.
We can cash out the free bets on the next round of Premiership matches by selecting a match with suitable odds and backing all three possible outcomes with the same companies using only the free bets in your accounts.
This means that the worst case scenario on the Middlesbrough v Portsmouth match is two free £10 bets if Portsmouth win. If however, you would like the bet reworking so that the worst case scenario is hinging on a draw or a Middlesbrough win, just contact me and I'll rework it.
Also, if you want me to work out the best way to cash out the free bets on the next matches, just contact me and I'll do all the maths for you and tell you the best bets to place.
This method was used very successfully during the World Cup and you can read all about how it was done right here.
It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that we have been publishing arbitrage bets for three seasons now and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.
Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
