Middlesbrough's on-loan defender Jonathan Woodgate is fit and ready for Sunday's north-east derby with Newcastle. The 26-year-old is now back in full training, and took part in a heavy double session on the Riverside pitch yesterday.

The Middlesbrough-born centre-back would love to have the opportunity to line up against his former club at the Riverside after missing the 2-1 win against Everton last weekend after picking up a knock in training.

Woodgate, who played for Newcastle in their only Premiership defeat at the Riverside when Boro won 1-0 thanks to a Geremi header three years ago, said: "I am fine. I have trained hard for the last two days and, with all the physical work I did last week, I am okay.

"I would expect to be back in the squad for Sunday's derby against Newcastle."

The form of Austrian international Emanuel Pogatetz, allied to a stunning debut by German Robert Huth against Everton, means manager Gareth Southgate is by no means certain to pitch Woodgate straight back into his starting line-up.

The fans will expect Woodgate to play, but Southgate faces a very difficult poser in deciding which of the trio to omit.

Woodgate said: "I'm back in the squad again and Chris Riggott is not too far away so we've lot a lot of lads competing for the centre-back positions.

"But we have a lot of competition all over the team, and that's how it should be.

"We've got it at centre-back, but we've got it at right-back and left-back and all over.

"It's good that everybody has to fight for their place and I am no different to everybody else.

"It's up to the manager whether I come straight back into the side. I have no idea whether I will play against Newcastle or not, but I'd love to be involved because nobody wants to miss derby games."

Boro will go into the game as favourites, following their spirited victory against the Toffees, on the same weekend Newcastle were losing at home to Bolton.

However the Magpies have lost just one of their 10 league visits to the Riverside, which Woodgate experienced at first hand.

He said: "I thought the team played exceptionally well against Everton at the weekend and deserved the win.

"It was important to get the three points so that we could pull ourselves up the table a bit.

"That win was massive, really. I don't think the lads were any less confident but the three points have helped a lot.

"We have to carry on the same level of performance if we want to beat Newcastle."

Southgate's new regimented training regime seems to be paying dividends with the Boro players working solidly through two training sessions a day as their former team-mate strives to make them the fittest team in the league.

Woodgate said: "It's been tough because the training has been really intensive but we have all worked hard. We have done everything the gaffer has asked of us.

"It's hard, but it's enjoyable and I look forward to coming into training every day.

"The manager and the coaching staff at Middlesbrough are first class and we know that we need to work as hard as we do.

"We saw what can be achieved after two weeks of hard work before the Everton game."

GUARANTEED PROFIT ON NEWCASTLE UNITED v PORTSMOUTH

The Carling Cup Third Round continues on Wednesday as Newcastle take on Portsmouth at St James' Park and we can guarantee you a profit on the match, whatever the result.

You won't be able to do this if you already have accounts with one or more of the bookies we are using for this bet but if that is the case, mail us and let us know which accounts you have and we'll send you an alternative bet.

What we are going to do is back Newcastle to win with Betfred in the hope of gathering a decent win. We are also going to back both Portsmouth and the draw so that we ensure that we end up in profit on this bet, whatever the result. Read on and you will find out how.

We're going to lay out a total of £186.00 on the match and we will collect £272.00 if Newcastle win. If Portsmouth win or it's a draw, we will make a small profit. Whatever the result, we will also gain a £25.00 free bet.

All the bets here are on the ninety minute result.

Here's how it's done. Just follow these simple instructions.

1. Open accounts with Betfred and Totesport and Extrabet. This shouldn't take you any longer than ten minutes.

2. Make the following deposits into your new accounts. Deposit £80.00 into your new Betfred account. Deposit £56.00 into your new Totesport account. Deposit £50.00 into your new Extrabet account.

3. Now make the following bets.

Place £80.00 on Newcastle at 6/5 with Betfred.

Place £56.00 on the draw at 12/5 with Totesport

Place £50.00 on Portsmouth at 15/8 with Extrabet

You have temporarily laid out a total of £186.00. I stress, temporarily... Now sit back, crack a beer open and enjoy the match.

4. Here's what happens at the end of the game.

If Newcastle win in ninety minutes, you will collect £272.00 from Betfred, including your stake back and your first win bonus. This money can be withdraw immediately.

We've had a few mails recently saying that our figures are wrong because people are forgetting about the Betfred bonus. When you are checking our figures, don't forget that Betfred double your winnings up to £100 if your first bet is a winner, so with this bet you will collect the following if it's a draw.

£96.00 winnings, doubled, plus your £80.00 stake back which equals £272.00.

If if it's a draw in ninety minutes, you will collect £190.40 from Totesport

If Portsmouth win in ninety minutes, you will collect £190.63 from Extrabet.

As with Betfred, Extrabet also pay a bonus on your first bet. What they do is match your first bet up to £25.00 so if Portsmouth win, you will collect the following:

£93.75 winnings, plus £43.68 winnings from your free matched bet plus your £50.00 stake back which equals £190.63.

Totesport will then credit your new account with a £25 free bet, whatever the result of the match.

5. This means that the worst case scenario on the Newcastle v Portsmouth match is a draw at ninety minutes and you make £4.40 and gain a free £25.00 bet. But if Newcastle win, you make £86.00 clean profit plus a free £25.00 bet.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions at all about this bet and we will come straight back to you.

Please note that the free bets and bonuses are valid for new customers only so if you already have an account with one or more of the bookies we are using, you won't be able to do this. If that is the case, contact us and we'll mail you an alternative bet using different bookies.

This method of betting was used very successfully during the World Cup and you can read all about how it was done right here.

It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that we have been publishing arbitrage bets for three seasons now and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.

Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
