Boro's squad is bolstered by the return to action of Franck Queudrue, Mark Schwarzer and Gareth Southgate. Franck was substituted after nine minutes in the last game against Manchester City but has recovered from the dead leg that he sustained at the City of Manchester stadium.

Gareth has recovered from the back problem that has kept him out recently and Skippy has recovered from tonsilitis.

The bad news is that Lee Cattermole is an injury doubt. "Cattermole got an injury at the weekend and is struggling a little bit," said manager Steve McClaren yesterday. "We will have to wait until tomorrow." There is no update available at the time of writing.

Gaizka Mendieta is definitely a non-starter as he broke a bone is his foot earlier this week and will not be in action again this season. Gaizka will have an operation next week.

Meanwhile, Emanuel Pogatetz is under the surgeon's knife this afternoon having reparatory work carried out on the serious facial injury he sustained in the first leg.

Basle are set to make just one change to the side that played in the first leg with Scott Chipperfield replacing Mile Sterjovski.

Briggsy's Middlesbrough team prediction.

4-4-2 formation.
