Preston earned another point last night in a 1-1 at Bramel Lane against Sheff Utd, The result pushed North End a point closer to finishing in a play-off spot. The result also meant that Sheff Utd stayed six points behind us.

Richard Cresswell scored a valuable equaliser for Preston at Bramall Lane.

Cresswell netted with an overhead kick three minutes after the break from a Chris Sedgwick corner.

Leigh Bromby had converted a Jon Harley corner from short range to open the scoring, while Michael Tonge saw his shot deflect against the crossbar.

A cross from Phil Jagielka narrowly missed the Preston goal early on, while Blades keeper Paddy Kenny saved from Richard Cresswell and Paul McKenna.

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock:

"It was a fair result and a decent game. Once they scored early in the second half I think a lot of people would have expected Preston to win it.

"I thought we got better after that and I was very pleased with the players.

"We worked very hard and it could've gone either way. We've had Harley hit the bar with a deflection."

Preston boss Billy Davies:

"It's a very good point. There's no doubt when you come to a place like this, it's very important that you defend the way we did.

"They were very difficult conditions with the wind and it was difficult to get the ball down and play.

"I'm delighted with the point and with the effort once again."
