Inspirational striker David Nugent has spoken of his delight at after taking his goal tally to 20 for the season.

The promising 19-year-old has adapted superbly to Championship football, since arriving at Northend from League Two's Bury back in January for an undisclosed fee.

Nugent netted his seventh goal in 11 starts for Northend in the 3-0 win over Cardiff at the weekend which looks certain to have cemented our play-off spot and took his personal total to 20.

With Preston one of the Championship form sides after losing just 1 in the last 20 matches, Nugent admits it will be beyond his expectations if Billy Davies' side are playing in The Premiership next season.

''I still can't believe what's happened,'' said Nugent.

''I'm playing against the big players I used to watch on TV. The other week I went into a tackle with Paul Ince. It was weird.

''I really enjoyed it but it was me that came off worse. I targeted 20 goals this season so I'm delighted to have reached that mark.

''I didn't expect to be playing so soon after arriving but it's up to me to keep scoring.''
