Ward off to Malta

Mark Ward is hoping to receive an offer from Maltese club Sliema Wanderers FC after being released by United.

The young striker recently flew out to Malta for a spell on trial with the club and is now anxiously waiting to learn whether he did enough to earn a contract.

Ward was freed in Neil Warnock's end-of-season clear-out after making just two first-team appearances.

Ward's hopes of securing a move to another English club have been hit by the collapse of ITV Digital.
