Paul Peschisolido has been ruled out for the start of Sheffield United's season with a toe injury. He has been plagued by the injury since last December and is not expected back until October.

The 31-year-old striker's absence comes as a blow to manager Neil Warnock, who is also without Carl Asaba through injury.

Assistant boss Kevin Blackwell said: "No one has really been able to get to the bottom of the injury until now.

"It is a rare one in this country and there have probably only been 10 cases in the last 20 years of British sport," he told the club's official website. Peschisolido will see a specialist in America in a bid to speed up his recovery.
