Coventry Rugby boost squad with former Doncaster player.

Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce the signing of lock and back row player Sam Pailor from Welsh Premiership side Swansea. Born in Swindon and now aged 24 Sam spent most of his life in Welsh rugby representing the Dragons U18 and U 20, and also represented Wales at U 20’s level.

Standing at 6ft 4ind and 98kg, Sam can play either as lock or in the back row either as No 6 or No 8. A combative and effective forward both in the scrum and around the park he will bring a different dimension to the Coventry Rugby squad.

After a spell at Pontypool, Sam then had a season at Championship side Bedford Blues before joining another then Championship side Doncaster Knights at the start of last season.

This season Sam switched back to Welsh rugby playing for the Welsh Premiership side Swansea before being snapped up by Coventry Rugby. Only joining last week Sam was pressed straight into action against Blackheath, with injuries to Brett Daynes and Jacques le Roux, in the process meeting up with some past acquaintances both from Bedford and Doncaster as well as the Welsh continget.

Sam settled in well to the Coventry side and enjoyed his first appearance, and was pleased with the overall performance of the side once they got over the idea it was a seven a side game. He thought the forwards were immense giving a forward platform for the backs to take advantage of.

This signing is Coventry’s 18 new signing of the season making a total squad of 38 players including a number of dual registered players from Northampton Academy.

I Sam ok to play against Doncaster in the forthcoming fixtures? I'm not too sure about parent club regulations or if it is like football when players are unable to play

Provided he has been released by Donny (which he must have been to have played in Wales this season) and signed by Coventry (which he must have been to have played for Cov on Saturday) the fact he once played for Doncaster is immaterial. Plenty of players have played for us against their previous clubs and vice versa.

Sam Pailor was signed from Swansea, he played five games for them this season scoring one try. It did say in Tom Littles press release that he came from Swansea.

Tks Mick yes I did say signed from Swansea, the confusion perhaps caused by my headline which was also correct.
