...up captaincy.

Scott Morgan says Rob Nash’s decision to step down from being Coventry captain is starting to pay dividends following the Welshman’s first try in the Blue and White.

Nash produced a clinical finish in Saturday’s 36-34 victory over Tynedale, which was part of what Morgan feels was the 27-year-old’s finest half in a Coventry shirt.

That has convinced the head coach his last-minute signing is starting to adjust to life in National One after picking up the openside following a pre-season match with his former team Cross Keys.

At the time Morgan was thrilled with Nash’s capture and immediately installed him as skipper, however, Matt Tibbatts has resumed the captaincy with Nash preferring to concentrate on his battle for the No. 7 shirt with Liam Munro.

And while Morgan admits Nash is yet to make the impact either man would have liked, he says the signs are positive.

“He is definitely moving in the right direction,” Morgan said. “He asked me if he could not be captain and I had no problem with that because he wants to get his game in shape, which is the right thing to do. It’s important he gets that done individually.

“I think he played a lot better on Saturday, especially in the first half. We believe in him, that’s why we signed him. He would be the first one to put his hand up and say he has has played better in his career but we have all been through that.”
