Cov coach Scott Morgan delighted by win at Esher

Coventry head coach Scott Morgan was delighted with the performance that earned a 20-14 win at Esher and consolidated their top three place.

In front from the fifth minute, Cov controlled the scrums and stifled Esher’s lively backs with some outstanding defence to inflict the opposition’s first home defeat of the season.

“I’m really pleased for the boys, they delivered the game plan as we asked them and it got the result they deserved,” said Morgan, who played an hour in the second row and was an influential figure in Cov’s win.

“We let it slip a little in the second half when we had sustained pressure on their line and didn’t score, but we won’t beat ourselves up over that. Esher are a good outfit, and this is a decent scalp away from home for us.”

The result saw Cov close up on Rosslyn Park who remain second on points difference before Saturday’s visit to the Butts Park Arena. Added Morgan: “This was just one game and we are still in November with a lot of rugby to play, but we – and the club as a whole - are making progress.
