Cov Kid Rob Knox earned a firm nod of approval from head coach Scott Morgan after marking his debut with a try in Coventry’s 31-29 win at Cinderford.
“Some players have just got what it takes, and Rob has it,” said Morgan, who called Cov’s first-half performance ‘outstanding’ as they took a 28-14 lead against a strong wind.
The 21-year-old centre, who has been training with Cov for the last six weeks, has joined on a two-year contract and Morgan added: “He’s powerful, a strong runner, and he’s got great hands – he’s got a real future.”
Cov had to withstand a strong second-half rally from the home side to secure their first-ever win at the Gloucestershire club.
“Our first-half performance was the best 40 minutes we have played all season,” said Morgan. “We asked them to play to a structure and pattern, and they stuck to it. I was really happy with that, but in the second half we just had no possession.
“With the wind behind us you would have thought play would be up the other end, but credit to Cinderford, they were very streetwise in the second half, keeping the ball tight and not making mistakes.
