The Coventry Rugby side to face Fylde away at the Woodlands, Saturday 1ST March with kick off at 3 pm has just been announced.

It shows a number of changes from the side that narrowly beat Richmond last week. Both Luke Myring and Jacques Le Roux are in the starting line-up after their representative duty last week, with Luke replacing the injured James Otutaha in the centre, and Jacques Le Roux replacing Matt Tibbatts.

There is another change in the back row as injured flanker Max Northcote-Green is replaced by former Leicester Tigers player George Oliver, making his Coventry Rugby debut. There is also a change at half-back as Cliffie Hodgson reverts to the full-back position in place of Barry Davies whilst his place at fly-half is taken by Matt Jones with scrum-half Louis Silver coming in for Pierre Ferre who takes his place on the bench.

There is a change at hooker as Chris Locke starts with Matt Price taking his place on the bench. The final changes sees Tom Poole coming onto the replacements in place of Danny Wright as well as Greg Evans for Matt Jones.

worrying lack of speed in the backs , given that fylde like to run the ball, but good to see le roux back.
are we to assume daynes , tibbatts, munroe are all injured or a long way down th epecking order.
for those who want local live action broadstreet are at home ko 3pm

Or more simply, known quantities?

Phil Maynard's comments in the Coventry Telegraph today confirm what I said about three weeks back - that having nothing except a mathematical chance of promotion, we are now concentrating in good part on sorting out a squad for next season.

No 7 has been a problem this season. We need two decent players in that position, this season the big hope has not been a great success, so it is clearly a position that the club has to look at strengthening.

I'd prefer to see the experimentation happening now than in September.

I completely agree with Old Nick.

It is just a pity that it has taken 40-50 players to come to that view with seemingly no prospect of 2nd team rugby for those not selected. A massive waste of playing talent.

SMALLER SQUAD!!!!

Kimbo, you may think it ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz

but you may see the relevance when next season Cov are starting from scratch yet again and buying in the next 40-50 players that they know nothing about.

I rarely agree with Old Nick, but he is 100% correct - at last.

Let's be very clear. I do not for a moment believe that a smaller squad would have helped Coventry this season. It has been smaller, in terms if numbers used, than most years, and had several times been nearly too small.

I do however approve of using this last quarter of the season to plan replacements, and reinforcements, for next season.

Interesting comments from Phil.
IMO it is a double edged sword.. On one hand we are basically saying that we have nothing to play for as promotion is not on the cards, so lets bring in trialists, and tinker with the team every week. On the other hand you have supporters and a squad that want to win, and by doing that you risk not achieving that.
Bit of a funny one really, but i can see the logic in it, although im disapointed that we are in that position to be bascially winding the season down.

i think all the changing of the team shows that we need a second team so that all the squad can be seen playing.night hawks is a farce and should be done away with, unless some concrete fixtures can be arranged.

Intersesting point about Cov using remaining games to tinker with side and prepare for next season. The outcome of these matches may not be of the utmost importance to Cov but the results may have say in who stays up and who goes down with Tynedale in danger and 'Luffbra' possibly getting getting sucked in too.

The cov side selected is hardly a weak one, to my mind I cannot argue with the selection.

Coventry tinkering will have far less impact than Bkaydon releasing three of their squad for county matches, or Cinderford finishing their season so far into the summer that half their opponents will have retired.

According to pete glackin on last ruckn maul, there would be no tapering off and would be putting strongest team out to win the games, if I recall correctly

Really sorry to say this, but PM has been saying the same darn thing for years. He has presided over this failure to stave off relegation or a credible push for promotion.

yes, shrink the squad by all means but use those funds to bring in players able to get us out of this division and capable of keeping us up.

that means championship players or players of that ability.

I can see the logic of tinkering and I suppose we have to accept the possibility of defeats, but the real trick is to retain the favoured players next season. If they are good enough they must be tempted to move on.

Based on the team selected for Fylde I totally changed my prediction and instead of getting 9 points I got Nil point. However what I did get on Saturday was to watch a great game of rugby with 20 players capable of holding their own in the Championship wearing the Coventry shirt. Getting a bonus point win against a team that were third in the league what more could you want other than it happening every weekend.

A great result, but for us to mount a serious challenge we do need to win every weekend. :-)
