Coventry Rugby have announced that a further four key players have been retained by Coventry Rugby for the forthcoming season, thus bringing to 16 the number of last season's players retained, with more expected to be announced next week...

Leading try scorer Will Hurrell is joined by former Welsh international fly-half Matt Jones, with experienced centre Luke Myring and Coventry RFC/Henley Academy scrum-half Pierre Ferre .

Will Hurrell, winger aged 24 joined last season from Stourbridge where he had scored 14 tries from 29 starts. Will made an immediate impact here at Coventry Rugby last season  with 17 tries from 29 starts making him the leading club’s try scorer. Playing mainly on the wing his strength and straight running proved him a handful to many defences and Coventry Rugby are pleased to have signed Will for a further two seasons.

Matt Jones, fly-half is aged 30 and joined Coventry Rugby  last season from Bristol Rugby, brought a wealth of experience which included a Welsh cap against Canada in 2005. Linking up again with Head Coach Scott Morgan from their playing days together at Newport Gwent Dragons, Matt had taken time to get used to National League 1 rugby. His 24 appearances including 5 replacements, have brought him one try, but more importantly Matt has been instrumental in getting his backs moving giving them the opportunity to score the highest number of tries in the last 4 seasons.

Luke Myring, centre starts his fourth season at Coventry Rugby putting his previous injuries woes behind him as he became an ever present in the Coventry side over the last half of the season, which saw him make 21 appearances including 8 as replacement and scoring 2 tries. His experience and steadying influence proved invaluable in the later part of the season as Coventry achieved their highest ever final position in the league.

Pierre Ferre , scrum half is aged 18, joined the Coventry Rfc/Henley Academy from Tarbes in France. Training pre-season with Coventry Rugby Pierre impressed enough to be signed by Coventry when he became 18 mid way through the season. A deceptively strong, nippy and hard tackling scrum half Pierre has so far made 9 appearances including 3 starts and scoring 1 try.

Already with the retained Coventry squad up to 16, last season’s retained list of 18 is expected to be comfortably exceeded giving the Coventry club a firm consistent basis for further progression.

At last, not having to start a season with a new side. This is good news indeed.

Great to start with a settled side, but the others will also move on. No room for complacency - but plenty of room for a top-drawer winger, among others.
