Key front row players retained…

Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce that a further two experienced members of last season’s squad, all from the front row have been retained. Matt Price and Andy Brown have all signed on again once again giving stability and consistency to Coventry Rugby for the new season making it 21 players retained from last season.

Matt Price, hookeraged 31 starts his 5th season at Coventry Rugby, joining Coventry after spells at Bedford Blues and Rugby Lions. Already having played 98 league games for Coventry Rugby Matt almost had to give up rugby before the start of last season due to injury, but proving his resilience had 27 appearances last season including 11 starts interchanging with Chris Locke. Head of Community Rugby at Coventry Rugby  Matt is responsible for taking  rugby into schools as well as the popular rugby camps at the BPA, with the exciting news that from September there will be full-time “Sports Ambassadors” who are 1st team players that are qualified sports coaches working in the Community.

Andy Brown, aged 25 a loose-head prop joined Coventry Rugby at the start of last season from the then Championship side Doncaster Knights, after earlier the previous season being sent on loan to Coventry. A quietly effective scrummager Andy made an impressive first full season at Coventry Rugby making 21 appearances including 18 starts. Andy will be starting a two year contract bringing more stability and experience into this crucial role.

Coventry Rugby prop forwards Tim Ryan and Ignas Darkintas are no longer at the club with Tim Ryan released and Ignas Darkintis believed to have signed by Ealing Tfs. Coventry Rugby would like to thank the departing players for their contribution to the Coventry club over the past season.

Replacements for these two departures will be announced as soon as the relevant paper work has been completed.

Two great retentions, Matt we knew about and Andy we guessed would be retained, but again great confirmation. Now looking for the news on the two new front row appointees. [:wor kid:](Sm128)

If it was all announced in one fell swoop, it would inevitably be announced considerably later on and there would be criticism of the lack of news making Cov like a sealed off water pipe...

The pre-season matches are presumably stuck in that sealed-off pipe?

Good retentions, and with the new guys we ought to be OK up front again. I'm sure Aggie would have it no other way, so... happy days!

Thanks for the article Tom but as I said in a previous post, would it be possible to have a caption under the player photo saying who it is of, or 'pictured' next to their name? It's unclear whether that's Matt or Andy.
