Coventry Rugby are delighted to confirm that iconic and their record achieving goal-kicker Cliffie Hodgson has been appointed captain of the Coventry Club.
This is due reward for a player who has stamped his influence on the Coventry club over the past two seasons, and due recognition for his faith and belief in Coventry Rugby. Phil Maynard, Coventry Rugby’s Director and General Manager states that this honour of captain is well suited to Cliffie who has shown his loyalty to the Coventry club by staying with them despite offers elsewhere, and fully justifies this honour by his incredible scoring record over the last two seasons, as well as his overall game and influence on the rest of the squad.
Cliffie has shown his versatility last season by playing initially at fly-half or full-back and latterly at centre and scoring 10 tries as well as starting in all 30 games of the season-the only player to do so. He was the league’s top kicker with 322 points as well as being the league’s highest points scorer on 372, which was also a Coventry club’s record.

A fine level headed young man with an old head on young shoulders. A very popular choice for club captain and I wish him well in the coming season and beyond
Excellent choice as captain. If Rob Nash stays, maybe he could shine without the extra responsibility. I've got a good feeling about this coming season.
This is probably the single greatest achievement so far because, with the retained player list receiving so much approval, the appointment of Cliffie to lead the team as captain has a unifying appeal to it. It makes so much sense but also has a strong message which the players, the club and the supporters will respond to.
Well done Cliffie. Richly deserved and absolutely ideal for our aspirations. Congratulations.
