The former England player insists that Wasps' move to Coventry promises a 'big future for the Aviva Premiership side.

Coventry-born fly-half Andy Goode has said that Wasps controversial move to the Ricoh Arena was 'a necessity' to ensure the club's future.

Wasps Rugby Club rolled into town on Wednesday after Coventry City Council voted unanimously to buy ACL, the stadium operating company at the Ricoh.

The move was met with a furious reaction from the Wasps support online with over 3,000 people signing a petition but the former Henry VII pupil insists that it was Coventry or bust for the Adams' Park-based club.

He told talkSPORT: "The move was a necessity,”

“The club was an hour away from going bust a couple of years ago, so I think you need to look at the bigger picture.

Lifelong Sky Blues fan, pity he could not give a mention also to the Club through whose Colts he set out on his rugby career !

Take it that the necessity of Mr Goode is the new JLR automobile that comes with the move to Coventry.

None of the above. The basic fact is their money man doesn't have bottomless pockets, couldn't wait for permission for stadium build and let's face it, the Ricoh is cheap and ready to go. Established venue and turnover in place.
