As a statement of intent and a signal to the rest of National League One, this was the loudest of Coventry’s eight-match winning run by a country mile.

Cov again had their four-try bonus point taken care of by half-time, but this time there was no drop in performance level as they continued to turn the screw and went on to add five more tries to put down an emphatic marker for this weekend’s visit of leaders Ealing Trailfinders.

The better side over the opening half, Cov were still vulnerable with only a 17-14 lead to show approaching half-time after handing their hosts – solid up front and always dangerous in possession – two soft tries.

But four minutes either side of the break proved decisive as Tynedale received two yellow cards, Cov scored two tries and, in between, started the second period by catching the kick-off and then rolling back the opposition forwards a full 30 metres to halfway.

From such a platform there was only one way to go, and Cov maintained their intensity to the final whistle.

Prop Andy Brown took the plaudits for his three tries, but was quick to point out that they were through the efforts of a pack which saw a solid return from Adam Parkins, back for his second spell at the club, and a promising debut for his fellow Saints Academy member, England under-18 back row Lewis Ludlam, and it was a result achieved by an all-round team effort in which every player did his job.
