Back-row forward Ed Milne is revelling in the opportunity to further his rugby education with Coventry.

The Leicester Tigers No.8, who turned 20 at the end of November, has played an important role for Cov in the 13-game winning run which has taken them into second place in National League One.

And, proving a worthy replacement for Jacques Le Roux who has been out of first-team action through injury since the opening game of the season, Milne is certainly relishing his time at the Butts Park Arena.

“You can’t not enjoy it with 13 wins on the bounce,” said Milne, who lives in Scraptoft.

“It’s great fun, I’m playing with a good set of boys, and we’re on a winning streak which is good for everyone.

“Game time at my age is essential, and it’s great to be having a regular run-out at a good level – all the things I’m learning at Leicester, I’m putting into practice at Cov and it is helping me to progress.”

In his first season as a senior squad member at Leicester after three years with their academy, Milne had an all-too brief spell at Cov last season when he played in the 31-29 win at Cinderford before he was loaned out to French club Clermont Auvergne.

Ironically, his second appearance for Cov came in this season’s 15-11 victory at Cinderford, the second game in their current winning run, and he has still to taste defeat with the Blue and Whites – a situation he will be happy to see continue.

“Hopefully we can stay unbeaten for the rest of the season and that will see us end up winning the league,” he said. We will probably have to do that with Ealing going further ahead and we have to hope they slip up somewhere, they are definitely a strong outfit.

“It was a tough game for us at the weekend at Old Albanian, the first half was OK and we got a few points ahead but the consistency was probably lacking in the second half. They were a lot better in the second half and the conditions were not good at all.

“We did make it hard for ourselves, but at the end of the day we took the four points.

“Cov have the talent in the squad, without a shadow if a doubt, and we know we can do it – it’s just a matter of getting it right. We have got to keep cracking on, getting the wins and the bonus points as well.”
