Lasklustre Coventry suffered their first home defeat since the opening day of the season with head coach Scott Morgan admitting that their National League One title is now over.
Skipper Cliffie Hodgson missed a penalty chance to win the game deep in injury-time, but it would have been rough justice on the visitors.
"Hartpury were better than us in every aspect of the game," conceded Morgan. "It was a very disappointing performance from us, we didn't get going, and we have to pick things up again quickly to make sure the season doesn't just slip away after all the good things we have done."
Cov went ahead with a sixth-minute penalty from Cliffie Hodgson, but they were at sixes and sevens for the rest of the half as errors repeatedly cost them hard-earned territory.
Gareth Thompson kicked an equalising penalty on ten minutes, and the visitors made the most of some half-hearted tackling four minutes to go in front with a try on the right for Alex Brown which Thompson converted.
Cov were struggling to establish any kind of attacking platform, and they went further behind on 33 minutes when Hartpury drove over from a line-out for Callum Bowden to claim an unconverted try.
