...after emphatic win over Loughborough.
Front row legend Dave Addleton was left purring with delight by Coventry’s pack performance at Loughborough Students on Saturday.
Cov’s forwards were the cornerstone of an emphatic 48-12 win which took them to the top of the National League One table, dominating up front from first whistle to last to the appreciation of their set piece and contact area coach.
“It was great to see that happening,” said former hooker Addleton, who chalked up 354 appearances in an impressive career with Cov.
“We have worked hard in training on our scrummaging and with the line-out, and fair play to the lads they brought it to the field on Saturday.”
Three of Cov’s seven tries came from line-out catch-and-drives, two from scrum pushovers, and another when Students lost control of the ball as they went backwards on their own put-in.
“I don’t know how good or poor Loughborough’s pack is, but all you can do is play against the opposition in front of you and make sure you execute your own game well which is what we did,” said Addleton.
“We know Hartpury will be a different animal this weekend, we owe them one as well from last season, but Saturday will have given the guys confidence.
“A lot of the players were here last season and have improved their game with the extra year, but also we have brought in some good lads over the summer so there is real competition for places in the pack.
“If somebody goes down there is another player to step in, and you have got to be on your game because performances will be looked at closely by the coaches.
“To be fair, the boys were brilliant on Saturday – now we’ve just got to keep doing it on the training field and continue to make it show in the games.
