Coventry slipped to a second successive National League One defeat with a lacklustre performance at the Athletic Ground.

The damage was done in the first half hour with Cov picking up three yellow cards and conceding three tries, two of them penalty awards, to trail 19-0.

They made a much better fist of things after the break, but some poor ball retention meant it was midway through the final quarter before they got on the scoreboard and Richmond hit back with two late scores to finish well clear.

Cov's woes began as early as the seventh minute when they conceded a penalty try for collapsing a line-out maul, leading to a yellow card for Matt Price, with Rob Kirby adding the conversion.

Richmond claimed their second try after 15 minutes, Adam Gadsby squeezing over in the left corner, and with the home side comfortably containing Cov's efforts to make any impact as an attacking force, it got a lot worse for the visitors when Tom Poole and Sam Pailor were sent to the sin bin in the space of two minutes with the deleted pack conceding a second penalty try, converted by Kirby.
