Out-of-sorts Coventry crashed to their third National League One defeat of the season and had scrum-half Wayne Evans sent off on the final whistle for a second yellow card offence.
Both sides made a string of handling errors in a stop-start encounter, but Fylde bossed the breakdown and were sharper all round against a home side lacking continuity and strangely devoid of ideas.
Fylde were 22-3 up at the break, and although Cov edged the second half 3-2 on tries, the 14 points they conceded while Evans was in the sin bin proved decisive in what was by far their worst display of the season.
Matt Jones missed an early penalty chance for Cov before Fylde went in front with a try from Oli Brennand in the left corner after 12 minutes.
Chris Johnson missed the wide-out conversion but added a penalty going into the second quarter, and although Jones replied in kind four minutes later, Cov were punished when they lost possession in contact 30 metres out and Fylde countered for Dan Maher to cross between the posts, Johnson converting.
