...finding continuity in team selection.

Coventry’s current three-match winning run has highlighted the value of being able to keep a settled side.

For the first time this season, Cov have been in a position to field the same 20 players on match day and have been rewarded with bonus-pint wins over Blaydon, Cinderford and Henley Hawks.

All three opponents are in the wrong half of the National League One table, but with a now decreasing injury list following a crippling run of early setbacks, it has afforded Cov the opportunity to rebuild their confidence and put their season back on to something of an even keel after some disappointing defeats.

“Consistency in selection comes from having the players available,” said head coach Scott Morgan.

“You never want to change a team for the sake of it, but seven to eight weeks ago we had 14 injuries and, if we’re honest, a decimated squad, but we’ve dug deep and we’ve pulled through.

“We’ve got a tight group of blokes, we know that because we saw it last season, and these boys will put it on the line for each other, and the club, every week.”

Highlight of last weekend’s 29-13 win over Henley was a superb 70-metre individual try from centre Rob Knox, one of the recently returned players after being injured at Richmond at the end of September and missing four games, which – coming from a stolen Henley line-out – was a product of another strong pack performance.

“It was really nice to see Rob back to that sort of form,” said Morgan. “And the reason why he is able to do that again is that the forwards are going well – running their direct lines, winning the gain line.

“It’s unfair to single anyone out, everyone is working hard, and although we became disjointed in the second half on Saturday and responded to some niggle when we didn’t need to, I thought the first half was quite a complete performance.”

Added Morgan: “We had a decent couple of weeks before Henley, and given that Blaydon have beaten two of the top sides in the two weeks since we nilled them, it makes that win of ours a little more punchy.

“As I have said before, we are not looking beyond Darlington next week which will be tough. They turned us over up there last year, so it will be a test.
