Injury-hit Coventry held out under a late Richmond siege to emerge with a creditable draw against the National League One leaders.

Leading 21-7 midway through the third quarter, Cov tackled themselves to a standstill as Richmond went in for two converted tries to level the scores and threatened to snatch the spoils as they applied relentless pressure in the closing stages of 11 minutes of added time which also saw George Worth fall short with a long-range penalty attempt out of the mud for the hosts.

After an even start Richmond made the breakthrough on 17 minutes, working a try in the left corner for Jack Allcock which Rob Kirby converted well from wide out.

Cov were coming under pressure in the set scrum, but with Richmond centre Cameron Mitchell in the sin bin they pulled back to level terms after 29 minutes when Gaston Mieres created space for Matt Price to charge over in the right corner, Cliffie Hodgson adding the conversion from close to the touchline.

The visitors continued to ask questions, but Cov's defence stood up to the test and they burst in front on the half-time whistle when Mieres burst through a gap in the Richmond defence to cross between the posts with Hodgson again converting.

Ross Grimstone picked up Richmond's second yellow card after 49 minutes as the visitors defended in their 22, and Cov were awarded a penalty try as they drove the opposition back at the next scrum, Hodgon converting.
