Coventry Rugby sign five players as summer rebuild continues

COVENTRY have announced five new additions to their National League One squad for next season including the return of fly-half Will Maisey.

The 23-year-old, who made his Coventry debut at the age of 18, played 26 games in three seasons at the Butts Park Arena between 2011 and 2014 before moving on to Championship side Nottingham, where he played 20 games in the 2014-15 campaign.

Maisey spent this season at Cov’s National One rivals Ampthill, playing mainly at centre and making 28 league appearances.

He will be vying for the No.10 shirt with experienced 26-year-old Tony Fenner who is coming to the club after a season in France with USA Limoges.

Fenner, who is also comfortable at centre and full-back, had previously played for Auckland in the ITM Cup, Edinburgh in the Pro 12, Viadana in the Amlin Challenge Cup and Bedford Blues in the Championship.

Director of rugby Rowland Winter has also added Eoghan Grace, Darrell Dyer and Sam Harry to the forward pool.

Grace, 28, joins from Championship side Ealing Trailfinders. The former Munster Academy back row has played for Ireland at under-19, under-20 and 7s levels, and has plenty of experience from his time at Exeter Chiefs, Plymouth Albion and Connacht.

Dyer, 23, joins from Ampthill where he has been a stand-out performer in National One this season for Ampthill and, at home across the back row, has played for Bedford Blues and also for Northampton Saints from where he spent a brief period on loan at Coventry at the start of the 2011-12 season.

I make that 24 and counting including the player- coaches who may be restricted in appearances given their maturity.

No scrum Halves yet...

PROPS Stankovich, Boulton, Foreman and Brown (4)
HOOKERS Tolmie and Price (2)
SECOND ROWS Jubb, Conquest and Poole (3)
BACK ROW Dyer, Snyman, Grace, Harry and Woodburn (5)
SCRUM HALVES (0)
OUTSIDE HALVES Maisey and Fenner (2)
CENTRES Burke, McBurnie, Knox and Smith (4)
WINGS Heath and Rundle (2)
Full Backs Pritchard and Hodgson (2)

...I know the more sophisticated list will be updated soon, but it helped me work it out in my own head!

I heard contract offered BUT also been offered by Rotherham so he is still to make decision. Think I know what I would do in his position

I'm looking forward to seeing Will Maisey again. I first saw him play for Nuneaton before he came to Cov, and thought he had potential. With hindsight, perhaps he was too young when he was trying to get a regular first team slot, which is why he moved on. Perhaps now he has experience and maturity he may be a very good player.

Henley base is info from 2 incoming players.

Lights and a bit of drainage would be required as it's an old soccer pitch down there.
I guess the butts will be used early on or another local club until Henley upgraded?

As far as I can work it out, we still need a scrum half, or maybe two. There seems to be an absence of number nines.

With a few exceptions, the club seems to be announcing players in groups by positions. Have a look a the big list and you'll see what I mean.
