Hartpury College 50 - 19 Coventry


Top for a reason.

Cov are back down to earth with a bit of a bump following an excellent result against Blackheath.

This is perhaps more a reflection of the quality of Hartpury than of the ability of the Coventry squad.  Hartpury haven't lost all season, but at least Cov pushed them hard - it's difficult to see anyone beating them on this kind of form.

More sterling work by the Coventry Rugby Supporters' Club ensured that a large Cov following was there to cheer the lads on, but injuries and yellow cards took their toll and in the end Hartpury ran out deserved winners.

Personally I've no bitterness towards Hartpury, but their dominance of the division and the madness of only having one promotion spot and no play-offs means that for most teams in National League 1 the season is effectively over.

Russ - you're right and the RFU are now saying the following:

The impact on promotion and relegation is covered in RFU regulation 13.2.8. Its effect on our clubs can be summarised as follows

Championship
no club will be relegated
National 1
top of league will be promoted to the Championship
bottom two clubs will be relegated to National 2
National 2
top team in each league will be promoted
second placed teams in the two leagues will play off and the winner will be promoted to National 1

Which means that Richmond (or whoever) are safe and there's essentially no change to the other leagues, other than to say that Nat 1 will be one team light in the new season, a there's no change to how clubs get promoted from Nat 2

Not sure what you mean Sam Skennel.
As I read it, National One will still have the same number of clubs next season.
They are relegating two clubs not three from NL1. ie one less than usual.
2 clubs coming up from NL2 North & South, PLUS,as before the winners of the second placed play off.
That still makes for the same size Division 1
