THE COV Train rumbles on...

Probably against the odds, a depleted Cov side, shorn of talisman captain and Eight Burrows, Johnson from the front row, midfielder Owen, winger Emery, alongside the almost forgotten absentees Dacres, Snow, Kpoku, etc. etc. dug deep to overcome league runners-up Doncaster over two legs of the near-nonsensical Championship Cup.

Following a superb gritty display in South Yorkshire where the Blue & Whites confounded the pundits with a fairly comfortable 13-point win in front of a tiny crowd, the return match-up resulted in a narrow win for the visitors, but crucially, a nine point aggregate win for Cov.

And the reward for such endeavour? A flight to Jersey for a semi-final on Friday, just five days later.

When, oh when, will the RFU realise that this dead duck of a competition cannot be resuscitated, and add a couple of sides to the league? Give us thirteen competitive home games for heavens' sake. Pulling most of the funding from the second tier, while attempting to turn the level into a reserve league for the premiership isn't enough for them it seems; they also want to destroy clubs with uncertainty and unappetising matches.
