Championship Roundup- 13/14th April

Saturday and Sunday Championship fixtures this weekend, Round 18 , with Ealing having the bye weekend. Three games yesterday, with two more today, obviously with Cov at Nottingham this afternoon and Caldy travelling to Doncaster.

Cornish Pirates travelled to Hartpury and snatched a BP victory with an injury time unconverted try by Jacob Morris, 30-25, despite a monster penalty from Harry Bazalgette from just inside his own half, that made it 25-22, a Tom Pittman penalty for the visitors levelling it up before replacement prop Morris's late clinching try. A case of so near, yet so far for the hosts. Att : 1218

The second game saw basement side Cambridge suffer another points mauling as visitors London Scottish scored seven tries in a 43-13 success, despite the hosts leading 13-0 at the break!  Seems like a second half collapse of calamitous proportions.  Att: 2054

Yesterday's  final game saw another ' Battle of Bedfordshire', as Ampthill travelled to Goldington Road, upsetting their hosts by winning a BP 29-24 game. The A's led 26-12 at the break, try BP banked, before withstanding the expected Bedford fight back, which ended in defeat for the hosts and bragging rights for Ampthill.  Another two tries for Dean Adamson, including his 100th. Championship try. Remarkable.  Att: 3711

In today's first game Doncaster Knights hosted Caldy, with the hosts running out comfortable 29-7 winners in BP success, improving on a 17-0 halftime lead to consolidate their fifth place position. Att: 1594

And so to the main event, Cov's trip to face Nottingham at Lady Bay in what is, usually , a tricky affair.  Not so today.  The Blue and Whites had a healthy 26-7 by the break, the pack dominating and in control throughout the first period. The second was more of an even affair, four more visiting tries, the hosts claiming three of their own, but, in truth, Cov's desire to create more for themselves certainly contributed to two of the Nottingham tries.  This win makes it six on the spin for Cov. At: 1303

Next up, Bedford at the BPA next Saturday, 3pm.

Coventry

Tries. Pellegrini 2, Owen 2, Martin, Poole, Venner, Penalty

Cons: Pellegrini 5

Cov hanging on to Ealing's coat tails and tantalisingly close to catching them. Although it is a big ask at least we're there with the question.
Bedford at home is a banana skin to avoid, particularly as they are still smarting from our win there.
Should be a good one.

Bedford, and Pirates away will answer a lot of questions.

Quietly confident for Bedford, not so much for Pirates. Hoping we get q0 points out of the two of them of course.

Ok, I was thinking Cov tally only. Didn't he get a few for Roth at level two as well? Not sure.

Not correcting, John. I know he came down from Orrell, but I also thought he'd played for Roth for a while at L2. Maybe I'm wrong.
