Wheels Come Off Big Time in Car Crash At The Mennaye

The Cov unbeaten train was horrendously derailed in Penzance as they were put to the sword by the swashbuckling Pirates.  Anything that could go wrong, did, in an 80 minutes horror show. 

4.00am , Sunday morning , hotel in Penzance , and trying to rationalise why it all went so wrong?  In truth, Cov were second best throughput. A brief opening spell offered some hope, but that was quickly snuffed out as the home side grew in confidence and ambition.  An early home score, closely followed by an injury to prop Matt Johnson, I suspect more might come of this, but the home side had the bonus point wrapped up by halftime.   A late first half Cov try , Liam Richman converting his own try, offered some hope.  Sadly, short-lived. The home side maintained their impetus and attacking verve for a deserved 46-14 outstanding win, Richman's second converted try merely a consolation. 
You have to give Pirates some credit, their use of the very high box kick caused Cov issues all afternoon.  Coupled with handling errors, wrong options and a misfiring line-out,  the mountain was too high to conquer.  There were some bright points later on, the younger replacements provided a renewed vigour and drive. Chester Owen, David Okeke, Charlie Robson and another glimpse of the promise of Dan Green , provided some light on a , metaphorically, dark afternoon 

Lots of work to do from Tuesday as the visit of Ealing to the BPA on Saturday offers another mountain to climb. Which Cov side will be on show?  You don't become a bad side overnight, do you?
