Based on that performance, it is easy to see why Ipswich are widely tipped to bounce straight back into the Premiership, as they easily defeated the Saddlers at the Bescot Stadium.
Only 5000 or so supporters witnessed the match. They must pray that a better side does not visit the Bescot this season, or else the Saddlers could be in a spot of bother.
Walsall started the game nicely enough. However, the Premiership quality of Ipswich started to show as they brushed away the cobwebs and eased into the match.
It wasn't long after the half hour mark that the Tractor Boys had taken the lead. Darren Bent found enough space on the edge of the area to test Jimmy Walker. His save fell nicely for youngster Darren Ambrose, who tapped home.
At the half-time whistle, Ipswich deserved their lead and all that the Saddlers had to show for their exploits was a Jorge Leitao header, and a booking for dissent issued to Ian Roper.
However, it was the Saddlers who came closest to scoring soon after the break, as Jorge Leitao's glancing header was cleared off the line by Jamie Clapham. Once again though, Ipswich eased up a gear.
Their movement and passing on the edge of the Walsall box was a joy to watch. The Walsall defence certainly thought so too, standing like statues as Marcus Bent's overhead kick put the game beyond the Saddlers reach.
Herivelto was brought on soon after, but he replaced Pedro Matias rather than Darren Wrack. His impact was immediate, as a decent run ended with a shot that was tipped just over the bar.
Ipswich eased off after that, safe in the knowledge that the Walsall midfield could make little impact, as the footballing brains of Matt Holland and Jim Magilton bossed the match.
Whilst there is no need to panic as yet, there are a few worrying signs. The lack of penetration up-front is all too evident still, with young Gary Birch and Jorge Leitao offering little firepower.
The return of Martin O'Connor to the centre of midfield, and the come-back of the big Aussie, Zdrilic, up-front, could be the key for the Saddlers.
