Martin O'Connor has said their is no news about a new contract, but there has been interest shown in him from other clubs.

Martin O'Connor has confirmed his future at the Bescot is far from certain, supporting what we published some weeks back.

O'Connor told the Express and Star that the club had not indicated whether or not he was going to get a new deal, but did say that...

"I am 35 now and players are now longer in the driving seat, but luckily for me there is interest from elsewhere" (The rest of the interview..)

When fit O'Connor has played an important role in the Saddlers midfield, which up and till his arrival in 2002 was light weight and lacked leadership.

Robinson, Samways and Sonner are no longer at the club, and Simpson's chances of a new deal are slim. Corica, Matias, Wrack and Lawrence can all play centrally but it is hardly their natural position.

The midfield area needs strengthening and if O'Connor leaves it will need completely restructuring in time for August.
