It looks like Martin O'Connor and Fitzroy Simpson have played their last games for Walsall, as the Evening Mail and Teletext report they have been given free transfers.

It probably comes to no surprise to fans that the two veterans (36 and 33 repectively) have not beeen offered contracts, especially with O'Connor being one of the club's higher earners.

The story is being reported in the Evening Mail and on Teletext, but there is no confirmation as yet from the club.

As soon as Lee made the announcement that the plating squad was being reduced to 20, the writing was probably on the wall for the two midfielders, though this will make rebuiding in this area a priority for Colin Lee.

There was some better news today for one ex Saddler veteran, though, as Ian Brightwell has been given a contract as player coach at Port Vale.
