Former Walsall defender Dean Smith has been made Club Captain of Sheffield Wednesday for the forthcoming season as they bid to bounce straight back to Divsion One next season.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Chris Turner has installed Dean Smith as club captain for the forthcoming season.

Former Leyton Orient skipper Smith, 32, was snapped up by Turner on a free transfer last February and made an instant impression at Hillsborough.

The defender was voted player of the month for March and April and Turner rates his leadership qualities as second to none.

"He goes out with the attitude of wanting to win and he demands things from other players," Turner told the club's official website.

"He's got a voice in the dressing room and out on the field and that's what you need from a captain."
