Forget the Beckham deal. The talk around Walsall is of the on-off transfer of Gareth Ainsworth.

Deal not dead

The Saddlers have confirmed that an offer has been made to former Wimbledon wide man Gareth Ainsworth.

Ainsworth spent December with the Saddlers, but a permanent move never came off because the two clubs were unable to agree a reasonable fee for the player.

Ainsworth then joined Cardiff City on-loan until the end of the season, but he wasn't overly impressive at Ninian Park and didn't feature in the side that went on to win the play-offs. It was thought QPR had wrapped the deal up last week, but it appears that nothing has been finalised and the Saddlers have put an offer on the table.

At this moment in time it looks like a two horse race between Walsall and QPR, and Ainsworth now has to choose between the two clubs.
