The Future is Bright.

A lighthearted look at some of the activities that have taken Bescot by storm. As for the forthcoming season, there are a few minor adjustments still to make before the finished article appears against the Baggies.

Moan, moan, and moan. Judging by the amount of whinging that has been going on this close season, surely this characteristic is a pre-requisite to becoming a Saddlers fan. It would appear that no matter what the club achieve or attempt to achieve there will always be those that continue to knock the club. Come on everybody, pre-season is now well and truly under way and Bescot is alive and buzzing with activity. It has been one of the most exciting pre-seasons ever.

-         The new pitch we are told is now completed and will remain maintenance free for the next 7 years. This is of course fantastic news for visiting teams to Bescot as it will allow them to play their expansive free flowing football against us (it goes without saying that I do not include Sjoke in this statement)

-         Workmen have now begun to bolt seats onto the bottom tier of the Street End (still a traditionalist at heart) which in effect means that we will be as cramped and as uncomfortable as our visitors

-         Season ticket prices have been slashed amidst much fanfare and we have already exceeded record season ticket sales. Yet, it is reported that teams such as QPR are offering more money to attract players than ourselves yet we are an established first division outfit. I have a feeling that the Towns of Hednesford and Willenhall offer more money to their players than we do. I also suspect that the bog cleaner at the local comprehensive gets a higher salary than our top earners. What the hell is going on, pray do tell.

-          Players have now reported back for pre-season training and its little over two    weeks until our first friendly. Everything is rosy. There is nothing to worry about. Mister Happy is still smiling and has a burning glow inside even though there is a little something nagging away at him. What is that something? Something is missing? What could it be?

Could that something be the total absence of a central midfield with Robinson, Simpson, O’Connor and Samways having departed? Surely this is no great shakes as our Colin must have let them go as he has a master plan up his sleeve. I am sure that some announcements will be made shortly to declare which quality players are going to occupy our engine room.

Could that something be the lack of a strike force with the left footed one seemingly AWOL and the young Birch back in training with a mardy on? Or what about the gaffer, he hasn’t reported in for pre-season yet – some people are reporting that he is back packing around Portugal in search of the blonde bomber. If only he tuned into the internet then we could tell him. Maybe we could all shout in unison “COLIN, HE’S IN NOTTINGHAM”, then again; it may be more amusing if we left him in Portugal . The club never does listen to the fans anyway.

Could that something be the total lack of wingers that have reported to pre season training? You know the ones – they are the blokes you see on match of the day that stand on the touchline. If we were fortunate enough we could have one on either side of the pitch who ran at speed and delivered telling crosses to the non existent strike force.

However, let us not get worked up into a frenzy. Everything will be alright. Take advice from Mister Happy that all will be OK as we have secured the services of Stevie Corica. All’s well that ends well.
