Matt Carbon Returns Home

Defender Matt Carbon has returned home after joining Third Division Lincoln City. The big defender - who last month went back on his decision to quit football - today signed for the club at which he began his career in 1993.

The Saddlers are unable to afford to pay Carbon - having used his wages on replacement Paul Ritchie. The former West Brom defender had been expected to join second division Swindon Town, but plumped for a return home at the last minute. A Swindon Town spokesman said "We thought we had him. Lincoln have come in, and for him it is just a move down the road."

In other news, goalkeeper Aaron Kerr and winger Pedro Matias are expected to be out for some time after sustaining injuries in reserve matches. Kerr sustained a fractured wrist whilst Matias suffered a possible broken toe. The Saddlers remain top of the reserve league after a 2-0 win over Preston. Mark Wright and Kris Taylor notching the goals.
