Lee Interview - Plenty of questions

Colin Lee has discussed the difficult challenges he faces as Walsall manager. He says the Saddlers are punching above their weight, and he seems to fear for our long term future in the Division 1.

Colin Lee has given a lengthily interview to James Nursey of the Birmingham Post, we summarise the main points. 

Finances

  • We have lost out on three international players in the last three weeks because of finances.

  • Just because we have better players like Samways and Merson doesn't mean we are paying higher wages. 

His future

  • If an opportunity with another club came up, he would certainly consider it because he is very ambitious.

  • He believes he has made the Saddlers a better club and  "there may come a point when I’ve taken this club as far as I can"

  • The Saddlers are a unique club because the manager is involved in all aspects of the club. He believes this is a valuable experience for himself. 

  • He has tried to "maximise" what he has at his disposal. 

The Saddlers future

  • He says the Saddlers are punching above their weight, and it could eventually catch up with them. "It was a bit like Coventry staying in the Premier League; they did well over the years but it was inevitable they would go down. That’s my fear factor here"

  • “At this club it is going to be very, very difficult to establish us in the First Division because financially we can’t really compete in this league"

  • The club is ran like a Division 1 club, things are tight, but it shouldn't filter through to the playing side. 

  • There have been a lot of changes, something the senior players who have noticed, and seem to be pleased with.

What do you make of Lee's comments. He is certainly being honest about the situation at Walsall. Are there signs of frustration? Does he seem keen to get out?
