Byfield Nets A Big One

It's being reported that our former striker, darren Byfield, has made a big move to Sunderland, with Proctor going in the other direction.

The Sunderland Official Site is reporting that Mick McCarthy is set to give his striking department a shake-up by signing Darren Byfield from Rotherham in a deal that will see Michael Proctor go the other way.
McCarthy moved for the Millers frontman after missing out on Huddersfield's Jon Stead last weekend, after his move to Blackburn.

Byfield, who is out of contract at Millmoor in the summer, has scored eight goals this season.

McCarthy said: "I hope the deal will go through today. He has played well against us twice this season and will offer us blistering pace. I wouldn't bring him in if I didn't think he bettered our squad."

The Sunderland boss is hoping to sign Byfield in time for the striker, who has found the back of the net 23 times in 58 starts for the South Yorkshire side, to feature at Watford tomorrow.

Moore had turned down an offer from Derby County for Byfield, saying he didn't want to sell the striker to one of his relegation rivals.
