Darko was billed as a winger who used
skill to beat his opponents. He did have some good touches, but failed
to produce consisstant performances while with the Saddlers.
He joined us from Falkenberg in Sweden,
having also played for Norrköping and DIF.
His debut came against Reading (1-0),
and he soon became a first team regular. His winning goal against
Northampton is the game that springs to mind when you think of Darko
Mavrak. He is also remembered for a few atrocious performances where he
looked nothing like a 2nd division player. It is unfair to say he had 22
poor games for us because he didn't. He just never managed to string a
series of good performances together.
99/00 saw Graydon bring in a number of
left wingers. Daley, Carter and Matias were all used on the left flank,
aluding to the fact that Darko was not up to First Division football. He
featured 7 times before he was released in December.
