^{Just how much the fee was is unclear, but we believe it was in the region of £50,000. However,  the Saddlers were only willing to loan him out. Who can blame them, a good run of goal scoring form would increase the players value on the transfer market.} 

^{Our sources say that Risdale and Hart are keen to recruit Birch on a permanent basis, and will make another move for him in the summer - when he is out of contract.}
