MERSE WANTS MAC AT
BESCOT
PAUL MERSON HAS TOLD THE
MEDIA HE WANTS VILLA COACH KEVIN MACDONALD AS HIS NUMBER 2.
Macdonald is a former Walsall
player and worked with Merse at the Villa.
MacDonald had a relatively
successful playing career with Leicester and Liverpool and also went
on to have spells with Rangers, Cardiff, Coventry. He arrived at Bescot in the
Summer of 1990 after leaving the Sky Blues.
MacDonald was an experienced
midfielder who added some much needed experience to a Saddlers side who had been
rocked by two successive relegations.
MacDonald is currently
the Reserve team manager at Aston Villa, a role he earned following an
impressive spell as Youth Team Manager.
Merse does seem a little
reluctant to approach MacDonald having told the Express and Star...
"Kev has got an
unbelievable job at Villa and after how well he's done it wouldn't be right to
bring him in on the chance of one year, because if it doesn't go right he
wouldn't have a job and that wouldn't be fair."
How much can we read in
to Merson's comments? MacDonald could well be interested in playing a more
active role at a Club.
It looks as though Merson
will look to appoint someone he knows well. Someone he has worked with in the
past.
