Keepers - And Then There Was One

Paul Merson has surprised everyone with the news that the club have released Northern Ireland under 21 International goalkeeper Aaron Kerr.

Kerr was brought in during the last close season by Colin Lee from Havant and Waterlooville and many supposed that he was seen as a possible long term replacement for the legendary Jimmy Walker.

Kerr looked good pre season, but suffered a bad injury while playing for the reserves which meant he was unavailable when he was needed badly, following Walker's suspension for his shove on Dennis Wise in the Millwall cup tie.

Most fans seemed to think that, if we could negotiate a new contract with the player, Kerr would be fighting with Kiwi International Mark Paston for the starting role next season, but the Evening Mail is now reporting that Merson is looking for another keeper to challenge Paston, following Kerr's release yesterday.

This one, I admit, surprises me.
