Byfield Will Play On Saturday!

Paul Merson has said that Darren Byfield will, indeed, turn out for Walsall on Saturday in our first pre season game at Chester City.

When it was announced that Darren Byfield was training with the squad last week, it was said that he was just keeping in trim, following the breakdown of his talks with Sunderland about a new contract.

Paul Merson has said today, however, that the club are in negotiations with the hero of Walsall's play off win against Reading, with a view to signing the speedy striker for next season's promotion campaign.

Byfield's spells with Rotherham and Sunderland seem to have made him an even better player and he would be an extremely welcome addition to the squad, despite the circumstances of his leaving Walsall in the first place.
