A youthful Saddlers side took on the Manchester United XI and came out with a 2-2 draw. Matt Fryatt and Steve Corica starred for the Saddlers.

It was disappointing to see such a young Saddlers side. Especially when they had charged £10 to get in. £10 to watch a Reserve Team Vs a Youth Team is a bit steep.

The  quality of Manchester United's football was marvelous, and they deservedly took the lead mid way through the First  Half.

They stroked the ball around well and had us chasing shadows for most of the half.

Mark Kinsella made his first start and and played the "Vinny Samways Role". Trialist Joe Broad played out wide. He had a half decent game, but nothing to write home about.

We had some decent chances, Birch wasted two close range efforts . Fryatt and Taylor tested the keeper with long range shots, while Kinsella blasted two wide. Our best chance came courtesy of Steve Corica who watched his 20 yard shot have the keeper beat, but land on the roof of the net.

Paston had a shaky half. One dodgy clearance and a couple of fumbles will not have endeared him to the Walsall crowd.

We had a much better second half and really came in to our own. Steve Corica put in another fantastic midfield performance. He put a string of quality balls in to the box, and it was a matter of time before we converted one, And we eventually did when Matt Fryatt connected with a right wing cross to hammer home at the far post.

Corica was coming deep, collecting the ball and looking to create. He easily upstaged Kinsella who was replaced by Jamerson mid-way through the half.

We went on to take the lead as Matt Fryatt was brought down in the box by a late challenge. Fryatt stepped up and slotted the ball home to make it 2-0.

Young Daryl Taylor was having another good game. He looks a real threat when on the ball and has given Merse something to think about when selecting his team for the Vale game.

As the game came to an end Man United pulled one back after some slack marking allowed in Blake. All in all it had been a half decent game played between two side who liked to get the ball down and play.

Man United played some of the best football I have ever seen from an opposing side at the Bescot. It was slick, quick and entertaining.

PASTON, Mark - Looked very very shaky in the First half. His kicking has been poor in most of his games so far.  5/10
BIRCH, Gary - Didn't really do anything apart from miss 2 good chances. Always beaten to the ball by sharp United defenders. Looked off the pace. 4/10
DANN, Scott - Dodgy back pass carved open a United chance. Apart from that he had a good game. Well worth his Pro-Contract 6/10
DAKINAH, Kofi - Dwelt on the ball a couple of times when he could have got rid. Looked strong in the challenge and read the game well. 6/10
JAMERSON, Nathan - Came on as a second half sub and had the legs to keep up with an industrious United midfield who were starting to take control of the game. One great flick (Joe Cole style) got a big cheer.  6/10
ATIENO, Tai - Came on as a sub and gave us an aerial presence upfront. He didn't really have much time to impress.  5/10
CORICA, Steve - A magnificent performance. Used the ball well and was easily our best player on the night. Also made a number of good challenges. 9/10
FRYATT, Matty - Came to life in and around the penalty area. Made all the right runs, and got in all the right areas. Took his goals well. 7/10
TAYLOR, Kris - A tidy performance from the former Man United man. Some great touches on the ball showed just why he used to keep such illustrious company. 7/10
TAYLOR, Daryl - Our new wing wizard got the crowd on it's feet and interested in the game. Naughton, Hodge, Peron, Pedro.. this is the new guy?. 7/10
WRIGHT, Mark - Had a solid game at Right Back. Handled what the United Attack could throw at him and got forward every time he could.  7/10
KINSELLA, Mark - Will be pleased with his first outing. Loves getting on the ball and spreading the play.  Not afraid to have a crack at goal either 7/10
BROAD, Joe - Can't say that he really stood out. Played as a narrow right midfielder. He is like Kris Taylor, Simon Osborn, and most the other midfielders we have. Would be surprised to see him again 5/10
WILLIAMS, Leroy -Didn't have long on the pitch, but certainly made the right kind of impression. Played just off the front two, he was popping up here there and everywhere.  6/10
HARKNESS, Jonny -Came on in the second half in place of Scott Dann. Had a quiet game.  5/10
