M K Dons vs Walsall - Tell Me The Old Old Story

Walsall failed to win away yet again this season at a poor Milton Keynes, despite taking the lead. 18 points from 16 games is very depressing.

Darren Wrack scored a fluke goal, as his cross crept in, but some shambloic defending let them equalise. Walsall dominated the game, despite Merson going missing, but never looked like scoring while the opposition managed to look bad but hit the woodwork twice. Yet another depressingly bad day at the office.

I can do no better than quote Geordiesaddler from Upthesaddllers:-

"There is surely no question that the current squad should have us a lot higher than 7th bottom of this awful division? If we were just a poor team then how come we beat Luton? With this formation as Neil says a lot depends of Merson's contribution. Ask yourself is Paul Merson a dependable, consistent performer around which you would like your team built? Is he mentally capable of managing and trying to be the most important player at the club?
My answer is no he isn't, he is at times (rarely) brilliant, but he is at best inconsistent and the team perfectly mirrors that. He has made the team a perfect image of himself".

Geordiesaddler goes on to write what ought to become our standard away from home match report:-

"I didn't go yesterday, but...
Was there perchance a lack of pace? Some defensive frailty? An inability to take relatively simple chances so that despite playing poorly we could easilly have won? Did Paul Merson mope around with hands on hips a lot, and give the impression that the weight of the world was on his shoulders? Did we make a poor team look good? Go on suprise me".
