Merse - Rule me out

Paul Merson has asked to be ruled out of the running for any future Man of the Match awards. He made the following statement in Saturdays Matchday Magazine.

"As manager I feel that is no longer appropriate for me to be considered in the voting for Match Sponsors'' Man of the Match. I would much rather my players get the recognition for their performances and would ask future sponsors to please take this into consideration when voting." The Sponsors decision for the Chesterfield was roundly booed by fans in the ground who thought that there were more deserved winners that Manager Paul Merson. Fans have been quick to point out that Matchday Sponsors are often choosing the player they wish to meet or know the most about. Paul Merson tops most peoples list. Is this a fair decision by Merson?
